  • Virgin Group's Alex Tai to play with Russian jets at Mojave

    (Source: Parabolic Arc) Alex Tai, Virgin Group's Director of Special Projects (and former vice president of Virgin Galactic), has acquired a lease on hangar space at Mojave Air and Space Port to accommodate a number of ex-military jets (three MiG-21 and one Aero L-39 Albatros). Spaceport director Stuart Witt said Tai and other pilots will be flying the aircraft out of Mojave "for recreational purposes." Rocketeer comments: "I'm sorry, Alex can't come to the phone right now, he's out playing with his MiG-21." Nice job if you can get it ;-)

The SL-6 launch is a mission by the Operationally Responsive Space Office ORS but there was extra space available in the Nose Cone section of the vehicle that the Suborbital Flight Environment Monitor SFEM was able to occupy . This is a great risk reduction opportunity in preparation for the upcoming SpaceLoft-7 NASA mission in August 2012. The SFEM had been previously shipped to UP Aerospace in Denver , CO for the balance and integration
